He absolutely gets it. He's saying, in fact, that this project is NOT 'open source' in the traditional meaning -- but that it doesn't need to be -- and in fact may not be feasible if kept open source. I don't get your point about the mainframes. Alan is certainly not a dinosaur if that's what you mean.
