Re: Problem with VistA
by David on Saturday October 21, 2006 @ 12:34 AM
Additionally, am I the only one who feels that Vista being architected on MUMPS is inherently handicapped? What would it take to move it to a more modern architecture/platform, such as LAMP? Perhaps I am uninformed regarding Vista's current or future architecture roadmap. Anyone who could elaborate and educate my on this issue? I would be much obliged. Isn't the practice of self-serving so-called "whitepapers" and even "objective" reviews of competitive applications quite tiresome? It seems a thinly veiled marketing effort indeed.

It could be written in Turbo Pascal and Turbo Toolbox, the user would never know. The people who have invested 30 years into VistA don't want to change and won't learn anything new. Mumps should be used in obfuscation contests.

I heard first-hand from one of the Physicians who plays a major role in the VistA project at the VA that Vista is being ported to Java by a company on contract with the VA. I asked him if the Java version will be released in the public domain. He said he doesn't know yet. I'm also not sure if all the components will be rewritten or just the front-end.
