  GNUmed 0.2.3 released
GNUMed Posted by Sebastian Hilbert on mandag desember 18, 2006 @ 07:08
from the it has been about time dept.
Today we are releasing a new GNUmed version. Version is up to 0.2.3 Version features and bug fixes are explained in our Wiki http://wiki.gnumed.de/bin/view/Gnumed/ReleaseStatus http://wiki.gnumed.de/bin/view/Gnumed/RoadMap Packages available as usual for GNU/Linux and MS Windows Debian packages will follow soon I hope, MacOSX packages didn't make it yet due to unexplained problems with the Mac port. In general it looks like the code is getting much more stable and easier to fix and extent. Maybe one day we will even see an alternative GUI client :-) Digg this article

What might you have in mind for an alternative GUI client? Doesn't GNUMed use wxWidgets? I've looked into wxWidgets, but for c++ you just can't beat Qt.

One day there might be a web client, a QT client a java client. Many possibilities. This last sentence has been added to stimulate development. While we are quite happy with wxwidgets QT has just recently seen a licensing change and has been an alternative since. But while the GUI might not be pretty it works for the people who use it right now and any new toolkit requires effort for a client GUI rewrite. Those resources are just not available.

Nevertheless we here at GNUmed support any effort to code alternative clients.

After all it's open source, it's documented. Just do it :-)

BTW Debian packages for 0.2.3 have just hit Debian unstable repositories.

      Sebastian
