Webinar on open source i2b2 (CTSA research) planning
Medical Education Posted by Dan Housman on Sunday November 11, 2007 @ 10:13 AM
from the Using hospital data for research dept.
i2b2 (http://www.i2b2.org) recently launched open source project focused on providing research IT tools for building deidentified research data repositories. UMass Medical School is adopting the technolgy but learned that there were many non-software issues like a data governance strategy that needed to be addressed in order to meet compliance and organizational needs. Ralph Zottola is presenting in a webinar to describe the planning and open source tool selection process. Digg this article

Dr. Zottola from UMass Medical School will be presenting his planning process and the effort that went into obtaining clearance, managing IRB/HIPAA compliance, funding, and selecting tools to execute their CTSA application. The link provides access to the registration information.

Using hospital data for translational research at UMass Medical School Breaking down the roadblocks November 27, 2:00 PM EST (11:00 PST)

A conversation with: Ralph Zottola, Ph.D., Associate CIO, Information Services Instructor, Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology University of Massachusetts Medical School

UMASS Medical School selected the i2b2 platform to provide the informatics infrastructure to support a new tissue bank for translational research. Dr. Zottola will speak on what alternatives he considered, why he chose i2b2, and how he planned for the implementation of a clinical data repository for a tissue bank. We will discuss:

  • Informatics challenges for research - how to integrate clinical data in a research data repository
  • How the i2b2 informatics platform and the tissue bank supports the UMASS CTSA Application
  • How an approach, which integrates research and quality data needs, has facilitated communication between the Medical School and the Hospitals

Aaron Abend, co-Founder of Recombinant and manager for the UMass project, will also be available to answer technical questions about the i2b2 data repository.
