Astronaut, LLC announces the Astronaut VistA Shuttle™ Electronic Health Record Beta.

Astronaut VistA Shuttle™ allows health care facilities, educators, developers, and physicians to start and manage affordable, encrypted, cloud based instances of Astronaut VistA Electronic Health Record (EHR) in minutes. This Beta is the first offering of a cloud-based Veterans Affairs VistA EHR with many enhancements. Astronaut, LLC offers both WorldVistA™ and OpenVista™ based editions.

The Astronaut™ VistA Installer is already the simplest way to start using the VistA EHR. The Astronaut VistA Installer turns an installation process that used to take months into an hour or less. Now Astronaut Shuttle™ uses pre-configured Amazon Machine Images (AMI) with Astronaut VistA pre-installed in minutes with secure disk and client traffic encryption included. The Astronaut VistA AMI images are available starting at approximately $100/month ($30+server(~$62)+bandwidth per month based on usage). This includes full disk and client traffic encryption, access to support tickets on a per ticket purchase basis, and basic instructional videos. More services will be coming soon!     CEO and President Ignacio Valdes - lol what a joke ! And so there you have the purpose of linuxmednews folks - self promotion of Ignacios business. Ironic that Ignacio earns money from google ads on linuxmednews advertising eclinicalworks and the like

      Thank you for bringing this up. I welcome this criticism as you are probably a thoughtful and conscientious person who like most of us strives for a better world.

      Nine years ago, Linux Medical News was begun: "to facilitate, amplify and begin the process of fundamentally changing medical education and practice into a more effective, fair and humane enterprise using modern technologies...allows anyone to contribute as well as providing forums for discussion..."

      This site has long maintained a neutral stance and would post or approve postings as long as they were a) Free/Open Source licensed. b) Relevant, c) Not defamatory, d) Having to do with FOSS in medicine. That has not changed.

      Yet I had a career as a BS, MS computer scientist and software engineer and have long had ideas of my own that no one seemed to be implementing. Obviously I've implemented those ideas and there are more to come. It would be odd and out of character of this site not to report on those events.

      This site has always welcomed and encouraged press releases from Free/Open Source companies, announcements, etc. That has not changed, nor will it change. If someone has something to say related to Free/Open Source software in medicine that we consider relevant, not defamatory, and they wish to post it here then it is still welcome. Very few postings have been rejected over the years.

      For better or for worse, I have committed myself to a specific company Astronaut, LLC and team with what I believe will be revolutionary results. In some ways it is already a great success with the VistA installers. To date I have spent thousands of hours of my own time on the company and its products. I do not think this effects my abilities as editor of Linux Medical News. The same policies that we have always lived by on this site will continue to exist. It remains wide open to those with something to say related to Free/Open Source software in medicine. Having said that, we are not responsible for posting about other companies, events and products although that frequently happens. As always they are welcome to post events and announcements.

      I realize that this may not satisfy critics or even friends. I reply that the only constant is change, that we have limited time on this earth, and it was time for me to enter the arena. So I end by quoting the following:

      "...The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat..."
