Length of medical education
by Tony Gazzatt on Thursday August 08, 2002 @ 04:15 PM
You wouldn't necessarily have to have a B.S. degree, alot of people do but some people get into medical school after finishing all of the required classes which would probably take 3 years. Upon admission to medical school your looking at 4 years of medical education, 2 years basic sciences + 2 years of clinical training. Then your residency takes at least 3 more years or more depending on what you want to do. I've heard that there are medical programs which accept students out of high school, but I would say that they are extremely competitive. My advice talk to some career counselors at your school and evaluate what your strengths and weaknesses are and what jobs might interest you, before deciding to go into medicine. Don't get me wrong medicine is really great and interesting, but its alot of hard work and studying and unless you really enjoy what your doing you might find yourself miserable. I would also suggest finding a physician to shadow now so you could talk to them about a career in medicine and find out what it's like to see patients.

Hello I am a tweleve year old middle school student at Seton Catholic School. I have a dream of becoming a veternarian when I am older so I disided to do my science report in the medical field. I am doing a science report on a science career. I was wondering how many years in all does it take to become a doctor. I was also wondering where some places where this trainig would take place would be, and also what are some of the responsibilities of a docotor are. This report is due pretty soon so if you could get back to me as soon as possibly that would be gratefully appreciated.Thank you so much. Also in this report we have to do a bibliography and if you get back to me in time I will definately put your name in it. Ones again thank you. Margaret

    hi
Actually i am in a great dilema .. i dont know whether i should take medicine or pharmacy .. I read your article and thought that may be you can solve my problem.. i heard about the length of medical studies.. it takes about 10-12 yrs. to complete medical studies and it takes only 6 yrs. to go in pharmacy .. My parents say that for a girl it is always better to go in pharmacy as there are no emergencies also in it and you complete it fast only in 6 years. Their point of view is right but from my childhood i always wanted to become a doctor . It is like if i think by my mind i think i should go in pharmacy but if i think by my heart i always wanted to become a doctor ..

If you can help me ..
    Waiting for your reply
    kena
