Another example which fits in this category is the TeleMed software, now renamed as OpenEMed which implements industry standard CORBA components in open source. It enables a plug and play set of components that can work across enterprises hand-in-hand with commercial products for wide area integration of medical records. It is the culmination of 7 years of distributed medical record development at Los Alamos National Laboratory. It has been deployed in some pilot sites and a syndrome surveillance system for ER rooms is nearing completion for deployment at some hospitals in New Mexico.
