Hmm, there is a hp.conf file in /etc/sane.d/ what seems to be the problem? The big one for me was finding epson.conf and uncommenting and editing the last line: usb /dev/usbscanner0 and using the following incantation:
- as root:
# mknod /dev/usbscanner0 c 180 48
# chmod 666 /dev/usbscanner0
- Edit /etc/sane.d/epson.conf as following
usb /dev/usbscanner0
- # modprobe scanner
I conjecture that hp.conf should be similar. If that doesn't work, make sure that you have run Kudzu.

Hmmm, beats me. Have you tried the linux-usb forum? https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-usb-users

Saint! I have done some web searching about ScanJet 3xxxC series. I found that this type of scaner talks to USB port newest language version that older linux-scaner-software do not understand. The #cat /proc/..../usb product proper device status, that make me sure that scaner itself is well connected and is ready to receive orders. I have install the linux scaner soft xsane properlly and it tels that no devices found. I do not understand why you edit epson.conf if it is not used by xsane. aha, GIMP also refuse to scan, it uses plugin xsane. StarOffice have his owne driver which not detect anything. Any Idea to solve problem?
