  GPL MUMPS/SQL Medical Record Project
Medical Open Source Development Posted by I. Valdes on Sunday July 08, 2001 @ 04:17 PM
from the MUMPS dept.
LinuxProgramming is reporting the availability of a GPL'ed MUMPS compiler. What's old is new as LinuxMedNews reported on this significant development 8 months ago. What LinuxProgramming does not pick up is that Dr. O'Kane now has a page describing a fully open source medical record project based on MUMPS and SQL. Digg this article

A good one. The "data collection application" looks very much like OIO's "forms". I think it would be great to move OIO's web-forms editing and rendering modules to the Gnu Medical Record system. Since both systems use SQL + PostgreSQL in the backend and both are under GPL, maybe the MUMPS engine will be able do things that OIO's Zope/ Python engine cannot do. Very exciting!

Out of curiousity how is this all playing out? I used to do a fair amount of Mumps programming w/ Intersystems Cache. I thought they had bought most of the rights to MUMPS? Is this a clone or I am mis informed.

Most likely it is ANSI Mumps, and you are right, my understanding is that IntersystemsCache bought up most of the other companies dealing with MUMPS so it is more or less proprietary in that regard. However, O'Kane, and Sanchez Computer Associates GT.M have GPL'ed implementations. GT.M is reported to be quite advanced and is a commercial product. I've never used either. -- IV
