SNOWMED transferred to an international body, ready for inclusion in FOSS

The College of American Pathologists has just Transferred SNOWMED CT to International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO). It is now available for use inside any of the IHTSDO Member countries if you are in the US, you can still get it from National Library of Medicine via UMLSKS.

However you still have to agree to the License Agreement for Use of the UMLS� Metathesaurus. It provides for some very FOSS unfriendly terms… included after the gap.

Linux for Clinics Alpha Release

Linux for Clinics has released a Alpha testing release.

Known issues…
1. Ubiquity icon is from Ubuntu
2. Initial boot screen on Livecd is still Ubuntu
3. Forgot to remove Gnome-Games
4. Forgot to install the medical dictionary for openoffice.org
5. No LFC upgrade path…Have not implemented our repository yet.

Taking heath information and giving it back to consumers – www.whoissick.org

http://www.whoissick.org recently launched a free new website focused on bringing heath information to the public by tracking and monitoring current and local sicknesses. Essentially, it is Web2.0/User generated content meets Healthcare through a very simple Google Maps interface.

Given the relatively slower adoption of internet and “web 2.0′ technology by much of the healthcare industry, we set out to create a simple, user-friendly, and valuable website for the average consumer.

Mirth 1.4 Released with HL7 v3, X12 and EDI Support

The Mirth project is announcing the release of Mirth 1.4, with HL7 v3, X12 (HIPAA X12N), EDI (UN/EDIFACT) and XML message support. Mirth 1.4 includes over 60 bug fixes, improvements and features, as well as a new, powerful development and mapping environment. Other new features include HTTP, SMTP and RTF support, application routing functionality and medical imaging support (binary image data encoding).
