OpenClinica Global Conference to Bring Together Global Community for Open Source Clinical Trials Software

The event marks the increasing popularity of open source software (OSS) in clinical trial electronic data capture and clinical data management.
The worldwide community around OpenClinica, the rapidly growing open source clinical trial software, will gather on March 22nd, 2010 in Bethesda, Maryland (USA) for the first ever OpenClinica Global Conference. The event will bring together users and developers from diverse backgrounds to share experiences and expertise in using the increasingly popular open source software for clinical trial electronic data capture and clinical data management. With thousands of users worldwide, OpenClinica is leading the charge on bringing professional quality open source software to the world of clinical trials.

The information-packed day-long event is open to all, and will showcase over a dozen sessions in multiple tracks for non-technical and technical attendees. Sessions will include case study presentations from organizations who have successfully deployed OpenClinica in clinical trials, tutorials on how to install and configure the software, and interactive discussions around the future direction of the product and community. Sessions will be led by speakers representing industry, academic, and government organizations. An evening networking reception will enable conference participants to informally share their best practices, innovations, and future plans with their peers.

“The OpenClinica Global Conference promises to be an extremely informative event for those interested in learning about how open source software can dramatically enhance the productivity of clinical trials,” said Ben Baumann, Director of Business Development at Akaza Research and Chair of the Global Conference. “Similar to the OpenClinica European Summit held last year in Brussels, Belgium, the event will provide numerous learning opportunities to expand one’s skills with the software.”

The preliminary conference program is expected to be announced mid-January. A complete set of hands-on training courses for OpenClinica users, developers, and system administrators will also be offered around the conference date. The training roster and course descriptions are available on the conference website.

Online registration is currently open and the early bird deadline for discounted registration and training ends January 8th. Proposals for sessions and posters will be accepted through January 15th.

“We are looking forward to participating in this event,” said Mark Paul, CEO of clinical research organization, StatWorks, Inc. “As a CRO that has used OpenClinica for several years, we have a lot to offer the community in terms of sharing our experiences. We are also interested in learning about how our others in the community have adapted the system for various settings.”
